Think about how your employment impacts on the planet – and make changes. Does your job help or harm the planet? Consider a career that values and supports the environment. There is a real danger that Australia will be left behind in the international market if we don’t develop the right skills base - Australia already has a shortage of ‘tradies’ with the skills to install solar and water saving technologies. If we don’t have skilled trades people, we can’t put solar panels on roofs. We don’t want to miss out. From trade positions to science and research, there is a wealth of career opportunity for clever thinkers prepared to find innovative solutions to the challenges ahead.
On the other side of the coin (excuse the pun), think about how your spend money and spend wisely. When appliances, equipment and household items break down, try and repair them first. This helps save space in landfill and conserves natural resources. We all need to question whether we want to continue being a disposable society – we can’t afford not to!
