Plant trees.

We can aspire to a world in which every child in every school in every country is encouraged to plant 10 trees every year and care for them. If this happens every year for the next 100 years, we can ensure our planet maintains healthy lungs to breathe. Support this initiative by making it happen in a school in your local area.

The significance of losing ecosystem values can be compared to rivets on an aircraft wing. The loss of one or two may not be a problem, as no one rivet is itself essential to the ongoing performance of the plane. But as more fall off, the integrity of the plane starts to fail. When would the plane no longer be able to fly? When would you start feeling uncomfortable about being on it? Globally we are losing ecosystem rivets at an unsustainably rapid and accelerating rate. Every action we take to stop this is important.

Al Gore has repeatedly emphasized the importance of forest conservation in fighting climate change. Reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) involves developing countries in efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Countries like Brazil and Indonesia are showing leadership by demanding action.

It is necessary for humanity’s survival that we aspire to re-plant 600 football fields of rainforest biodiversity every hour to compensate for the current level of destruction, until we restore balance in our eco-system.
